Taco Bell is a massive restaurant chain that serves delicious Mexican fast food. They have various menu items ranging from tacos to burritos. Why are we praising it so much? Well, because we love Taco Bell!

Taco Bell has been an all-time favorite whenever we are craving tacos, crunch wraps, or burritos. We have almost tried all the items on their menu. When we came across their shredded chicken burrito, we absolutely loved it! But unfortunately, they discontinued the item in November 2020, leaving us wanting more.

So, we took it upon ourselves and made a copycat Taco Bell shredded chicken burrito recipe. You will definitely love it!

How to Make a Copycat Taco Bell’s Shredded Chicken Burrito

If you remember, Taco Bell’s classic chicken burrito was the shredded chicken. It was packed with spices and amazing seasonings that made it so great. So, we decided to pack our attempt with those flavors, so it makes us nostalgic.

Before we jump into the recipe, we want to let you know that there will be a long list of ingredients, but that doesn’t mean it is hard to make. The process is easy, and we are here to help you through it. Check out this article to learn how to reheat taco bell.

Ingredients:

(a) For the Chicken

  • Tomato Sauce 8 ounces, 2 cans
  • White Vinegar, 2 tsp.
  • Minced Garlic Cloves, 3
  • Chili Powder, 4 tsp.
  • Ground Cumin, 1 tsp.
  • Salt and Black Pepper, as needed
  • Sugar, ½ tsp.
  • Boneless and Skinless Chicken Breasts, 1 and ½ pounds

(b) For the Sour Cream Sauce

  • Sour Cream, 1 cup
  • Tomatillo Salsa Verde, ¼ cup

Or,

(c) For the Avocado Ranch Sauce

  • Sour Cream, 2 tbsp.
  • Salt to taste
  • Ranch Dressing, ⅛ cup
  • Buttermilk, ⅛ cup
  • Avocado, ½

(d) For the Cilantro Lime Rice

  • Lime, 1
  • Long Grain White Rice, 1 cup
  • Salt, ¾ tsp.
  • Chicken Broth, 2 cups
  • Butter, ½ tbsp.
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper, ¼ tsp.
  • Cumin, ¼ tsp.
  • Cilantro (chopped), 2 tbsp.

(e) For the Assembly

  • 10 inches Flour Tortillas, 6 pieces
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese, 2 ½ cups

Note : You can make the sour cream sauce or the avocado ranch sauce for your burrito. There is no need to make both unless you want to.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: You need to marinate the chicken for 30 minutes. So, mix the dry ingredients, such as cumin, chili powder, sugar, salt, and pepper, with the chicken. Cover it with plastic wrap and let it marinate.

Step 2: While the chicken is marinating, let’s make the sauce. If you want to make the avocado ranch dressing, put avocado, ranch dressing, salt, sour cream, and buttermilk into a blender. Blend everything well, so there are no clumps. Now, pour it into a small bowl and refrigerate it until needed.

The sour cream sauce is self-explanatory. Just mix the two ingredients together and set the mixture aside for later.

Step 3: Now, back to the chicken! Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan. Fry the minced garlic until it turns brownish. Add your marinated chicken breasts to the skillet and fry for about 6 minutes.

Step 4: Then add tomato sauce and white vinegar to it. Stir everything together and bring it to a boil. After that, lower the heat and cover the skillet to let everything simmer for 25 minutes. Turn off the heat after the chicken breasts are completely cooked.

Step 5: Take another pan and add butter to it. Then, add salt, pepper, chicken broth, cilantro, lime juice, and zest. Mix everything, and when the liquid starts to boil, add the rice to it.

Step 6: Let everything boil again and then cover the pan with a lid, lower the heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes. After your rice is fully cooked, turn off the heat and don’t open the lid.

Step 7: Your chicken has now cooled down. So, take two forks and start shredding them. It will give that Taco Bell texture.

Step 8: Now is the assembly! Warm up your tortillas in the microwave for 10 to 20 seconds. Then add your favorite sauce onto the tortilla. Add the cilantro rice and shredded chicken to it. Don’t forget to cover it with shredded cheddar cheese. Now roll the tortilla with fillings into a burrito. Ta-da! You have a burrito!

  • Sriracha Hot Sauce
  • Buttermilk
  • Pickled Jalapeno Juice
  • Black Pepper
  • Kosher Salt
  • Thick Chicken Breasts
  • All Purpose Flour
  • Tortilla Chips (crushed)
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Onion and Garlic Powder
  • Paprika
  • Oil for frying
  • Puffy Flat-breads

How to Make: Take a large mixing bowl and add buttermilk, kosher salt, pickled jalapeno juice, black pepper, and hot sauce. Slice the chicken breasts into long strips and put them in the marination batter. Coat the chicken pieces evenly and cover the top with plastic wrap to rest overnight.

Prepare a flavorful flour mixture by mixing the remaining spices, salt, pepper, and crushed tortilla chips in a large bowl. Take your chicken out of the fridge and coat it evenly with the flour mixture. Carefully fry each chicken piece and lay them on a paper towel.

Now, assemble your sandwich by warming your puffy flat-bread in the microwave and adding chipotle sauce, veggies, and chicken pieces. Now, all you have to do is enjoy your well-seasoned sandwich!

Instant Pot Shredded Chicken Burrito Bowl

This is an excellent meal if you are trying to ditch carbs and, well, can’t fold a burrito like us. It takes a few ingredients, and you can cook everything in an instant pot. So convenient!

Ingredients:

  • Taco Seasoning
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Chicken Broth
  • Sweet Corn
  • Black Beans
  • Rotel
  • Green and Red Bell Pepper
  • Medium-sized Onion
  • Long-grain Rice
  • Boneless and Skinless Chicken Breasts

How to Make: Fill the bottom of your instant pot with chicken broth and lay the chicken breasts in it. Pour in the Rotel, beans, and corn, and top it with taco seasoning. Now, add the bell peppers and the onion to the instant pot. Give everything a little stir to not let anything pile up.

Rinse the rice well and press it into the instant pot to cover everything. Pour any remaining chicken broth, and it should be enough to cover the rice. Set your instant pot setting to high for 10 minutes and let everything cook with the lid closed. Let it naturally release pressure, then turn the sealing valve to the vent to push out any remaining air pressure.

Then, take two forks to shred the chicken and give everything one final stir. Close the lid, and don’t turn on the instant pot. Let it cook with the remaining heat. Then serve yourself a delicious burrito bowl to enjoy for dinner.
